SEC in Review

*      Summerfield, NC- The SEC Executive Board met in Summerfield, NC from 04-05 January 2008 for their first meeting of the year.  The board members discussed many topics.  To highlight a few, the SEC budget for 2009 was presented and approved.

It will be presented to the entire SEC at the upcoming annual meeting where the delegates will have an opportunity to vote on it.  All Nations Church was also accepted into the Southeast Conference.

Mt. Bethel Christian Church hosted the Executive Board, while a couple of members from Kallam Grove Christian Church were able to host a few of the board members in their homes.  Pete Hammett, Director of the Client and Assessment Services Group for the Center for Creative Leadership, and Gary Walters, ECC Executive Minister of Church Growth and Evangelism, extended their areas of expertise to the weekend.  Pete Hammett did a workshop on principle leadership, and Gary Walters provided information of the importance of mission and ministry.

*      Chicago, IL- January 6-13, Dr. Owens spent the entire week in Chicago with other superintendents from the denomination.  Their time was spent interviewing potential pastors from North Park Seminary.  Dr. Owens would like to report that he was very impressed with the quality of the candidates.  He will be spending more time with some of the candidates during the Midwinter Conference.

While in Chicago, Dr. Owens was also able to learn more about the revitalization efforts of the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC).  Seminars are being held in other conferences in an effort to get congregations thinking about ways to bring healthy vitality to the congregations.  As an effort to bring revitalization to the SEC, we will hold some revitalization seminars   (they are called congregational vitality) seminars in the coming future.  Please stay tuned for more information concerning these seminars.

*      Bridges, our new church restart in Tavares, held its first public service Sunday January 21, 2008 they had 90 people in attendance. Congratulations!

Prayer Requests

*      We just learned that Rev. Craig Anderson is back in the hospital.  In December of 2006, he had his aortic valve replaced (bovine) and it is deteriorating.  He will need to have a third open heart surgery.  He has contracted a virus and is being treated for that as well.  Once the virus is taken care of, he can move on to the next step, but he will need the valve replaced.  Dr. Owens spoke with him this morning, and he is resting well.  Please pray that he will have a speedy recovery and that the surgery will go well.  Pray for his family also.  We will keep you posted on his condition.
